Rita was born before the sugar lump vaccine was available and contracted polio at an early age.

She was a Girl Guide living in a village in Somerset and wasn't allowed to go camping with her unit because she was disabled. She was feeling like Cinderella.

Her father did some research (well before the internet) and found a campsite called Woodlarks in Surrey.

Rita's dad worked on the railways and discovered that with only 3 changes they could get to camp, and so off they went.

Rita fell in love with the adventure of camping at Woodlarks, discovered a vibrant community of friends, and that changed Rita's life – for the better!

I am so very glad to have played a small part in Rita's journey – I am both proud and grateful to be one of those life-long friends she made at Woodlarks.
