Brian rediscovered his love of swimming at Woodlarks!
Brian was born prematurely and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy affecting all four limbs. He was unable to walk and needed to use a wheelchair.
He discovered that he loved the freedom of swimming at school, but as he grew older found it harder to swim regularly because his local pool wasn’t accessible and transport was difficult to arrange.
Brian heard about Woodlarks from a friend and applied to join an ‘open camp’ – imagine his joy on finding that he could swim every day for a whole week!
Woodlarks ignited a dream in Brian – to see whether he could swim a mile. So, he negotiated with his camp leader to create an opportunity for that challenge. Other campers and helpers swam alongside to spur him on.
It was uplifting to hear all the cheers and see the elation on Brian’s face as he completed his final length. The whole camp celebrated his achievement. Yet another Woodlarks dream came true.
