Sean Rooney
I am an ambassador for Woodlarks.
I first came to Woodlarks in 1982. At the time, I was in the middle of my Duke of Edinburgh award which was awarded in 1988 after my trip to Kenya as part of Operation Rayleigh.
I had to raise some money to undertake the DoE scheme. Mike and Sue, who were the warden and secretary of Woodlarks at the time, helped to raise the money. I was determined to achieve my gold and had to complete the mountain section. Thankfully I was successful.
When I came back to England my mother and me went to St James’ Palace to meet Prince Philip to receive my gold medals.
When I came to Woodlarks in 1982 it was so different in those days. Pioneer 2 was camp for men only. We did things like cook in the woods in our group but I miss the old days.
I have attended camp since then and also support working parties which are arranged over the winter months.
I have many good friends at Woodlarks and like to help others.
I still come to camp every year and enjoy the fun activities.
I am very proud to be an ambassador for Woodlarks. It involves spending time with donors explaining what we do and the benefits we bring.
