Roy’s remarkable journey: defying all odds and inspiring our community.

Roy’s story is a powerful testament to the impact that the right kind of support can have. Born with disabilities, Roy’s parents were told by doctors that he would never walk, talk, or achieve anything in life. Yet, thanks to the unwavering dedication of his family and organisations like Woodlarks, Roy has been able to exceed all expectations.
Roy’s parents wanted him to have as many opportunities as possible and worked tirelessly to make this happen. They enrolled him in a Steiner school, giving him many chances to grow and learn, even though his social world was limited to home and school. This level of support created a strong foundation for his future.
When Roy’s aunt attended a fundraising quiz for Trekkers Camp (one of Woodlarks’ open camps), she recognised the opportunities Roy could embrace as a disabled camper at Woodlarks. Roy attended his first camp and never looked back, embarking on a journey that would change his life.
Roy soon became a truly valued helper at Trekkers: assisting with chores, keeping the log fire going, and helping with night patrols. He takes an active part in everything, including sharing his musical talent as an outstanding pianist. Through these experiences, Roy’s confidence and self-esteem have soared.
We are proud to have welcomed Roy into the Woodlarks community. Roy has shown everyone that, when given opportunities, people can achieve far more than anyone ever imagined. His journey is proof that Woodlarks transforms lives.
The friendships Roy has made extend well beyond the week at camp, strengthening our community and reminding us of the lasting difference your support makes. If you’d like to help more people like Roy reach their full potential, please consider donating today. Your contribution, no matter the size, will directly support life-changing opportunities and help build a more inclusive, caring community for all.
